3G toggling added (beta)

A long anticipated feature, mobile data toggling has been added to the WiFi, Sync,… add-on. It requires at least Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and is still considered a beta feature because it needs testing on a greater variety of phones and carriers. So far so good! More app activities available

In version 1.8 of TaskBomb you can run a lot more activities in other apps. When defining a task, under action types you’ll find a new choice: “Any activity.” This basically lets you launch any public activity in any app (whether the app actually means for the activity to be run like this or not). If you play around with it enough you’re bound to find some places where it won’t work, and you might crash the app you’re trying to play with (not really a huge deal as long as you’ve saved what you’re working on, if applicable).

The “MAIN” action type also now contains a wider selection of activities, but it only lists activities that are meant as “launcher” activities. Often the only choice will be the app’s main screen, but many apps have additional screens that serve as alternate entry points.

Jared White of The Tech Temple did a video review showing off TaskBomb and demonstrating his method for creating a Sync toggling schedule to conserve battery life.

One thing I like about this video is that he demonstrates the app on a phone running Ice Cream Sandwich, which means he’s done about as much testing of the app on Ice Cream Sandwich as I have (joking… somewhat). All kidding aside, the video is great and I thank Jared very much for doing it.

Boot/shutdown actions & Don’t wake screen

Version 1.7 of TaskBomb was released today with two exciting new features:

Boot/shutdown actions to run tasks and schedules right after booting or right before shutting down your phone or tablet.
An experimental setting called “Don’t wake screen” which allows tasks to run without waking your device’s screen.

Airplane mode toggling added

Tonight the Wi-fi, Sync,… Scheduler add-on was updated to version 1.1 and now includes airplane mode toggling. I know this isn’t 2G/3G/4G toggling (which many of you have expressed an interest in) but tackling that has proved to be complicated. Hopefully for some of you airplane mode will help (hint: turn on airplane mode and then turn on Wi-Fi and you have a Wi-Fi only device).

New feature: Change ringer mode

The Volume Changer add-on was recently updated to version 1.2 and contains a useful new feature: changing your phone’s ringer mode at certain time. To use this new feature, add a new task and select “Set volume change” and under “Change type” select “Ringer mode.” You then can select silent, vibate, or normal.

Version 1.3: Now with shortcuts!

Version 1.3 was just released to the Android Market. The app now allows you to use shortcuts as tasks, which offers many new possibilities for easy automation. Many apps offer shortcuts; you might have seen them when you long-press on the home screen. To use them in TaskBomb, create a task definition and change the “Action type” to “Shortcut” and go down to “Data” and select it. You’ll get a list of shortcuts available from the apps on your phone.

Add-on for Wi-Fi, Sync, Bluetooth

Today a new add-on was released that lets you schedule turning on and off Wi-Fi, Sync, and Bluetooth. The plan is to eventually add other functions such as 3G, 4G, and GPS. See more information about the add-on, or go get it now from the Android Market.

Bug fixed: SL4A force closing

As of version 1.0.10, the Script Launcher add-on contains a workaround for the SL4A bug described in issue 543. This means you shouldn’t get any more of those occasional force closes from SL4A when launching a script.
